Kelp & Kindred is a social enterprise based in the East Neuk of Fife, Scotland focused on using sustainably harvested seaweed to create nutrient-rich compost and soil enhancers. Unlike mass-produced compost, our products retain the natural microbial diversity needed for truly healthy soil. We also reinvest in local coastal communities and operate within a zero-waste, circular economy model.

Seaweed is rich in natural growth hormones, trace minerals, and beneficial microbes that improve soil structure, boost plant resilience, and increase water retention. Unlike mass-produced composts that are often sterilized at high temperatures (killing off beneficial microbes), seaweed compost promotes a living soil ecosystem. Our compost is also peat-free, chemical-free, and locally produced, reducing environmental impact.

We work with coastal communities in the East Neuk of Fife, using beach-cast seaweed that would otherwise go to waste. This method ensures that our work is both sustainable and beneficial to the local ecosystem.

Simply mix our seaweed compost into your garden beds, flowerpots, or vegetable patches to enrich the soil. You can use it as a top dressing or mix it into the soil for optimal results. For best results, use in combination with organic gardening techniques to promote soil health and improve plant growth.
